SUUNTO VYPER INTERFACE

The Suunto Vyper is with around 700 CHF quiet expensive, So that the Interface for around 150 CHF overstrains the purse of the most people. Anyway the firm is so kind to provide the software gratis from the web

So it's just the problem to get the interface. I made a web research and there are a lot of stuff about Suunto Spyder and older models. As the Vyper is quiet new there was no way to find a circuit to rebuild the interface, but I found an interesting Idea from Roland Wasmer. I checked the out coming signal of my Vyper and modified a little bit the circuit and it works ! Ivan made also one and it works too. The components for the circuit are cheap so that it just costs you a little bit of time. Anyway we are on the point to make an PCB so that its more comfortable to rebuild it.

Over the Diodes DA5-DA10 with the both capacitors C1, C2 you build an power supply for the rest of the circuit. The changing signal on he COM PORT loads up the capacitors with 9V/-9V.

The 3 Diodes D2-D4 stabilises an fixed Voltage about -1.5V, this is used as an reference for the comperator UA2 and is shifted up by the amplifier UA1 to provide the -3V for the negative logic for the Suunto Vyper in case of an HIGH level from the COM-PORT.

The PNP transistor Q1 provides 0.2V for the Vyper in case of a LOW level from the COM-PORT. In the other direction the comperator UA2 provides -9V for LOW level (0V) and 9V for high level (-3V) from the Vyper.

Check the voltage on your Capacitors +- 9V and also the signals coming out if you make a logical High or LOW on both sides. The level for the Suunto (negative logic) is -3V, 0V (to be adjusted with the poti R2) for a standard COM PORT +9V , -9V.
